Hello to you all,

im in the progress of choosing my first Light and have a few Questions regarding some of the possible functions aswell as needing some better Source of reliable Informations as im keep reading about Stuff that conflicts with one another.
Hope someone can spill my doubts or let me know their experience with it.

-Lights with Channel/Light Spectrum control
Thinking it would be good to learn more about how plants react to different settings/Light ranges.
would there be a big difference/benefit(also could one counteract other Errors or deficits with it?) to dial them in perfectly spec. in regards to the extra Bucks you spend on it?

- IR/Far Red Lights
Ive watched some of Bugbees Videos and read others Articles all over the Interne but cant come to a conclusion.
As far as i understand only a few percent of IR Led would be beneficial while too much would result in too much stretching of the Plant ?
Came to the understanding that the Samsung LM301H diodes emit enough of it to catch the beneficial effects from it, but stumpled upon some Lights that have add. Diodes
which results in a little bump in their Light spectrum at the IR Range.
Im not worrying about getting the IR/Far Red but wondering if i should avoid those Lights that have add. 740/780nm+ Diodes.

- Light Spectrum
I've mainly found Infos for what the specific Ranges do but i couldnt find good Information on how exactly different Light distributions effect the Plant
i.e. 1 Peak each in Red and Blue with a "bridge" between like most Lights i found or 1 Peak at Blue and a "Hill" at about +/-600 like the ViparSpectra KS3000 for example.
Can anyone shed some light on it or link me to some reliable Articles for it ?

Welcome to the farm.

Have you grown under lights previously?

After considering many things about lights, I ended up recalling that I've grown some darn good weed with ordinary full spectrum grow lights. So, I asked myself how much better it could get if I invested in high-tech lights. The answer is not enough to be worth the cost or the effort. Just ask and you'll get many good suggestions for the right light(s) for the type of growing you plan to do.

I'm super new to growing bro. Welcome to the farm. I have the viparspectra KS-3000 so far I really like the light. I have it set 42 inches away from plants and set to 75% plants love it. I like viparspectra says It has 100.000 hour lifespan. Also has 301 diodes and osram reds. I also have a phlizon Pl-4500 it's 450watt and has IR UV function. It has the 281 diodes but when I was running it I had it set 32 inches away set at 50% and it was putting out 530 ppfd. I really like the phlizon light. It really is a beast even with the lesser diodes.

This! ^ Rethink your  whole approach unless youre like a new golfer thinking Pings will make you a pro.
As an example, even blurples grow good weed and they're $35 on Amazon.
Any light will grow weed.
A 50w cob will grow small but badazz buds. Four of em will increase your yield x3 and that's only 200w.

LEDs are overpriced and sold via hype while using the exact same experimental diodes they used 10 years ago yet the price of lighting rigs has went through the roof. Preying on the inexperienced who want that Ping confidence.

If you're on a budget buy a cheap light and spend your money on more important things like Enviroment. I know I sound like a broken record but a dehumidifier is where you want to splurge your funds. Unless you live in a desert then maybe a humidifier instead.

Facts: you can grow great weed with a cheap light and good dehumidifier BUT, you cannot grow great buds with a $2k light and chincy dehumidifier.

To the haters, I said what I said, don't @ me and I'm not responding if you do.

Straight up, keep it simple. You're already making it complicated by flying into the web of unnecessary LED specifics. What you really should be looking for is a popular cheap light that many are using. Avoid the debates about them, people just like bumping their gums, it just makes them feel good useful and knowledgable. Camaraderie comes fo mind. Sadly people like you get sucked in right off the bat and lighting is your first impression. By next year you'll be one of those guys debating 💯.

The reason I'm going into detail is because I can see you're willing to go the extra mile to learn and maybe help someone else that runs across your post in the future.

Growing weed isn't science. I grow the most streamlined, cheapest, basic, elementary, childish, ghetto...you get it...way possible and I'm not afraid to put my flowers up against  anyone on this planet. I'm brave enough to stand up and say that point blank no fear signed sealed and delivered with my reputation on the line. The only reason I'm not the best grower on this planet is because there is no best grower, millions of us are best growers and we go about it millions of ways. One thing is guaranteed, all us best growers have the exact same fundamentals = success. Ain't no light or gimmic or fad gunna give us an advantage.

Im not knocking anyone for trying to grow like NASA because its fun to mess with stuff, we're guys we do that, but growing weed aint nothing more than growing a tomato.

So, focus on the fundamentals. Buy some grow books. If you put in as much time into them as you did researching lights you're going to be like me in no time. At least that's what I'm expecting because I'm kinda impressed with your lighting research...you're just barking up the wrong tree.

I recommend phlizon. They have all kinds of lights and sell directly from there factory. Good cistomer service I didn't like the light I bought. The guy in there end was amazing. Helped me get a light I liked. I just paid difference in price. The viparspectra ks-3000 is higher quality build. Detachable driver is nice. It definitely has less power than my phlizon. Im close to flower now I plan on using the phlizon it really pumps out the light. Phlizon got for less than 200. Phlizon is on this site too

Hey man,
Some great advice here so far. Someone was talking about environment, very very important, spend money there outfitting a room or getting multiple tents, de/humidifier is really key.
However, I would caution you against blurple lights. I started with them, and yes they’ll grow some puff, but full spectrum really are superior. Take your pick of the companies as I don’t wanna start that fuel here.
Check out the difference between 300 watt blurp lights and a 600 watt full spec panel.

Forgot to mention phlizon also sent me a free light. Two days after the light I paid for came. I received another package. It was there pl-1000 there smallest light. I think it goes for 70. The little thing is a beast. I followed there recommended use guide. The little light was too strong burnt my plants. I use it for seedlings now. I raised six babies under that light no problem. When they enter veg I up pot and movw them under my big lights

Environment is important. My first grow never grew past seedling stage. I knew nothing about environment. I have a nice large room evaporate dehumidifier. My grow game is way better now. I started with a small humidifier. I had to fill it threw times a day and had no control over humidity levels. The nicer humidifier I didn't know was nice until I had it. My plants look way healthier with the room on point.

I really need to add a disclaimer when I mention that blurples will grow weed. They will BUT I am most definatly  not suggesting they should be bought and used 🤣. I just can't knock them off because some people just don't have the funds to buy anything better.

I have one of those pieces of shit. I bought it when I knew nothing. Paid 100 for the garbage too. Still feel like a sucker when I see it.

I took the plunge and traded in my phlizon fd6500 for their new ir/uv triple channel light... im in the very beginning stages of using said ligjt...as I a veg under 24hr light I have noticed a tiny bit of stretch... but I can't say it's directly related to ir... I could have my light too high and too weak... im literally figuring this light out as I go....

Do I believe the UV will help the plant... maybe... my biggest interest is the sterilization of the environment over producing more trichs when using uv

I suggest thinking about how many plants you want to grow or how much weed you'll want. Then you'll know what size tent to buy. The size of the tent will then determine how much light you'll need. Thirty watts per square foot of floor space is a good rule-of-thumb estimator. So, for example, a 2x4 tent would need a 240-watt light or two 120-watt lights. (2*4*30=240)

Getting through the first grow is enlightening. There's so much to learn, and so much to buy. There are many ways to grow marijuana, so figuring out how you want to do it is important.
