Before I released the Colombian lines that Gage has (from Oldhand), it was already a IBL technically. Having gone through generations to population condition the line over here in Spain, stabilise chemotype and free the line of unwanted traits. I do that using populations of elite plants, not individuals, to attempt to keep as much diversity as is possible while creating a certain quality that is fixed in the population, no matter how small, forevermore.
Inbreeding is not inherently bad, in my opinion, and is a foundation of the creation of true F1s that can be superior. The problems associated with IBLs are usually derived from bottlenecking with 1 x 1 or such like matings in generations, particularly on the Male side. You cannot put back in what was left out, and all that glitters is not gold.
It is really time consuming work, and takes extremely detailed analysis of combining abilities of those males used. When talking of these raw Colombians, that alone takes many years. No problem for us, as we are really passionate about those lines and the entheogen "generating the divine within" highs we search the globe and breed for.
Neither are we constrained by projects driven by financial desires so it takes as long as it does. Others have different desires, and are under more pressure of time, resources, finances or many other industry environmental pressures. Most of which are in clear conflict of interest when it comes down to working with the entheogen properties of this plant.
I rarely use the term Landrace any more, and I would not call CB a landrace in the strictest terms at all. It is a heirloom, farmer maintained cultivar that was collected in situ by us and it is still being grown there by the farmer who is a family friend. Nowadays, even there, commercialism and nomenclature is a problem, CB gets sold as things. Whatever the name being used to describe the best is at the time. Has done since the 60s, standing the test of time. It is great herb, and especially friendly towards more modern cultivation practises, more so than some of the other Colombians we work with (and always will)
Your plants look great, well done, and it is a joy to see these genetics being appreciated and enjoyed hence chatting to you, while Puffin on some rainbows - selection time approaches, Colombian Cannabis rocks.
