How much water?

I've been watering my outdoor plants which are in 15 gallon smart pots 5 gallons every four to five days. I give them 5 gallons at a whack with sea green, rootamentary and neptunes harvest fish fertilizer pretty much every watering. So @ 10 gallons a week.
My plants are very happy, but am I hindering their growth by not watering enough?
Is there a rule of thumb regarding how much water per gallons of soil?

No rule of thumb, I go by their appearance and adjust my irrigation from there. I need a rain sensor for it, though. Your schedule sounds pretty close to mine in terms of frequency, but I believe I'm using less water since I use drip irrigation. An issue in California, maybe not so much in Massachusetts?
