And the winner of hater of the year is........(drum roll please) grayarea!!!

Fantastic year Mendo. Enjoy the fruits of your labor, enjoy your vacation and continue to stay above the haters. One piece of advice I would love to give for this time of year is, spring starts in the fall. Get your cover crops on, feed the microbes one last time with a good fish fert, and let it sit for the winter. I also apply a product called Rejuvenate from AEA that really helps break down the roots from last season.

Congrats on your girl saying yes. I know I wouldn't be half the man without my better half.
I'm gonna take all of the dirt out of each pot and put all of it in a huge pile on a massive tarp. That way I can dig all the roots out and add some new soil in the spring next year and do a blend. One property the owner requires me to clean up the grow for all of the winter- it's a big pain in the ass but it's his property so I gotta do what he says. And the other one we have to have the city permit people come out for a remodel so I gotta take all the fences down and do the same thing with the dirt. Oh well. I got a bunch of help I just hope we get some good weather during the dirt removal.

  1. Flax - Brown
  2. Clover - Yellow Sweet
  3. Clover - Duch
  4. Clover - Medium Red
  5. Clover - Crimson
  6. Lentils - Indainhead
  7. Safflower
  8. Hairy Vetch
  9. Vetch - Common
  10. Rape - Dwarf Essex
  11. Buckwheat - Mancan
  12. Pea - Forage
This mix comes from Buildasoil.com. I had good success with this last year. I like to add winter rye as well.

This is just for the off season. During the season, I only use clover, as some of the other species can get a little unruly.

I would consider leaving in the main parts of your root system, and cover your soil mounds with cover crops. Next spring, just mix in the cover crop when filling your pots. Make sure you leave 3 weeks for the cover crop to break down and cool off the soil.

I know this isn't feasible in some situation, but nothing is better for your soil than a good cover crop over the winter.

Yep, I planted chia two years ago, it's going STRONG. It's great for pollinators, but it grows too tall to easily be used with cannabis.

Austrian winter peas and fava beans are another good winter cover crop, and with the favas you can harvest a little food, too.

I wouldn't even bother removing the roots, I'd just inoculate with some tea for microbes and compost them.

That is a HELL of a yard!

Thx sea maiden. Yeah I always did the fava beans back in the day when I first started with my dad. This might be a dumb question but what your suggesting @Bulldog11 is plant all those things in my massive mound of 100 yards of dirt and let everything grow all winter. Then when I fill up the pots mix in the plants from the mound with all the dirt into the 200 gallon grow bags and make sure they have at least 3 weeks to decompose before I plant my ganja into them. ???

And after all of that is done I can plant clover around my stalks. ??

Two big questions. Did you use all 12 of those things you listed. Of the 12 if I wanted to narrow it down to 2 or 3 to keep it simple what are your favorites. What does the clover do and does it suck up a lot more water them normal pot plants without the clover.

That's kind of my take on it, but I wouldn't make one huge mound, I'd make it more leveled out (north side won't get as much light so less green manure possibilities here), and I'd probably want to allow about a month for decomposition, if not a bit longer. I would till in all the cover crops because we're not worried about the kinds of fungal networks in a container like a Smart Pot the same way we are with something like a raised bed, which is in direct contact with the living earth. At that same time I would also use whatever rock dusts I feel are appropriate, and inoculate with a few good doses of AACT to really get things going. You might even want to cover the pile at this point for two reasons--prevent weed seeds from getting in in the first place, and to prevent any present from sprouting. It will also help in the composting process, keep things moist, warmer, etc.

And after all of that is done I can plant clover around my stalks. ??
And fenugreek, and really anything that stays short. Blackeyed peas are very good for this, but they do tend to attract mites. That means they have possibilities as trap plants, too. The greens of fenugreek are excellent nutrition as microgreens, and it's the quickest-sprouting thing I've ever seen. I buy mine in bulk at bulkfoods dot com.

So in the next week or so I'm gonna get the crew to stop working on snipping and get about 6 people and two of the really nice Rubbermaid wheel barrels with two wheels and start moving the dirt onto a 60 foot by 50 foot nice thick tarp. It will probly be about 2 to 3 feet tall or so. Then I'm gonna sprinkle a couple hundred fava bean seeds ( maybe more??) throughout the whole top service and wait for the rain to come and germinate all the seeds ?? Anything tricky about germinating the fava seeds. Then they grow and I get some fava beans to eat and in early march I should dig them all up and mulch it into the dirt and cover the whole thing with more tarps. Sorry if I sound redundant I just want to make sure I'm gonna do it right.

and before i rototille it in I should add rock dust as well as all my new dirt thats heavily amended with organic stuff from sparetime... What is AACT?? Then cover the pile with more tarps or cheaper black plastic..
